Blog Post #1: Top 5 News Sources

My number one source for news and information is Instagram. I go on Instagram everyday to stay updated with everything from sports to music to friends. I like using Instagram because I can choose who I follow and what I want to receive information about (for the most part). Additionally, the "explore page" on Instagram allows me to look at content posted by accounts that I do not follow yet are related to the content of pages that I do follow. I would recommend Instagram to others as it serves as an outlet for information from all genres.

Another source that I use for news and information is YouTube. On YouTube, I watch videos on subjects such as sports highlights, music reviews, random educational videos, and a variety of entertainment. Instead of following pages like on Instagram, users can subscribe to channels that they would like to see more content from. When subscribing to a channel on YouTube, a user can also turn on post notifications so they get notified when their favorite channels upload a video. I would also recommend YouTube as it has a wide variety of information and suggests users all different types of videos for the greatest intake of information.

Snapchat is another source that I get news and information from. On Instagram, the accounts I follow are a mix of people I know and bigger pages with thousands to millions of followers. On YouTube, the channels that I am subscribed to mostly have thousands to millions of subscribers. On Snapchat, almost all of the people that I interact with are people I know. I use Snapchat mostly to stay updated with what my friends are taking part in and occasionally to see their opinions on certain topics. Snapchat is the most informal source that I use, which can be attributed to the fact that I know most of the people that I am friends with on the app. I would recommend Snapchat if the purpose is to get information from people you know.

Local news stations are another source that I receive news and information from. I usually do not go out of my way to watch the news, but if someone near me is watching it I will tune in to see what story is being discussed or to see what the weather is like outside. When I was younger, I would watch the news in the morning when it snowed in order to see if school was cancelled or delayed. The local news station where I grew up is called WJZ. I would recommend local news stations since they provide information specific to the location that someone is in.

The final source of news and information that I use is Twitter. Twitter is very similar to Instagram in that a user can follow both people they know and accounts with thousands to millions of followers. Attributes that are unique to Twitter include the ability to re-tweet and see what posts a user has liked. With re-tweeting, someone can add the post of another account to their page. If someone wants to share a post without it appearing directly on their profile, they can like it. I would recommend Twitter, although Instagram is a better source at it offers more in my opinion.
